Ruggs offers a unique wild bird experience that is not duplicated anywhere in the United States. The wild birds are hunted in prairies, canyons, and the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The 21,000 acres of habitat are home to Hungarian Partridge, Chukar, Pheasant and Quail. These hunts are done via Horseback or walking, we offer a large contingent of wild birds all around the ranch. Big running English Pointers will guide you as you wind in and out of the vast grasslands and fertile valleys, while tireless Springer and Cocker Spaniels will zero in and send your quarry skyward. The high rock ledges that rise around you will bring back memories of the old western films you grew up watching. These birds are fast and keen. As you ride up to a point you will dismount and assume your position on the firing line. As the dog proceeds toward the prey your heart will pound with anticipation…then the flurry of beating wings fill the air and the reports of shots ring out, followed by the excited language of dogs hot on the retrieve…this is how upland hunting was meant to be.
